Winter sports are arriving

Bella Taylor, Student Life/News

Peninsula High School believes that sports and activities promote citizenship. They believe interscholastic activities will teach students life skills and make them better prepared for life emotionally and physically. People who are in sports are proven to have higher grades and fewer discipline problems. Here at Peninsula, we offer a variety of sports. Here is some information about Peninsula’s upcoming winter sports!

Winter sports at Peninsula include Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Wrestling, Girls Bowling, Boys Swim and Dive, Winter Guard, and Unified Basketball. Cuts are possible ONLY for basketball and bowling. For every other winter sport, there are no cuts.

For these sports, you are REQUIRED to have ASB (Because of ASB funding), an up-to-date SPORTS physical that will last THROUGH THE WHOLE SPORTS SEASON (A WELL-CHILD EXAM WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AS A SPORTS PHYSICAL), and any medical requirements (epi-pen, inhaler, etc.).

Now let’s talk about registration. Registration for all winter sports starts on October 30th and all winter sports seasons (except bowling) begin on November 14th. Bowling starts on October 31st. Registration will be closed November 11th-14th at 8 am for clearing. Make sure to register as fast as you can! You must be registered and meet all the requirements to try out and participate.

If you have any further questions about Peninsula’s sports program, email Mr. Filkins, our outstanding Athletics Director. He is in charge of our Athletics program and will be able to answer any questions you have. We also have a lovely athletics secretary, Mrs. Wehmeier. You can give her a buzz as well if you have any questions!

Peninsula High School is a great place for everyone to get involved, no matter who you are. Sports are a great way to get students more involved with their school and each other! Being involved in sports will also better help their high school career. Even if you think sports aren’t for you, try giving them a shot. You never know what you might enjoy until you try it.
