2022+Recap

A lot took place throughout 2022, including movies like Elvis, Top Gun: Maverick, Uncharted, etc. Movies weren’t the only mentionable events of 2022. There has also been amazing new music, comedy, tv shows, popular styles, and more. In 2023 we will experience additions to the film world, along with albums from artists such as Sam Smith. With the past few years being so unusual, many industries have had to come up with new ways of putting out goods. In the music industry, consumers’ spending on music monthly decreased by 45%; This being because live music was not possible due to COVID restrictions. Though, this has been recently changing and has been on the rise. Many other important events throughout 2022 that you may have forgotten are listed below:

January

  • Jan. 1st – Wildfires burned in Colorado and caused the evacuation of 30,000 people and the destruction of homes across Boulder County
  • Jan. 3rd –  The COVID-19 variant “omicron” was responsible for about 95% of COVID cases
  • Jan. 30th – Joe Rogan allegedly spread misinformation about COVID-19 causing controversy, and due to Spotify keeping the podcast uploaded, several artists and users boycotted Spotify

February 

  • Feb. 4-20th – Winter Olympics began in Beijing, China
  • Feb. 6th – Queen Elizabeth II celebrates 70 years on the throne as Britain’s longest-serving monarch
  • Feb. 22nd – Russia invaded Ukraine in the Russo-Ukrainian War

March

  • Mar. 7th – The COVID-19 death toll surpassed 6 million
  • Mar. 27th – Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Academy Awards over a joke Chris Rock made about Smith’s wife resulting in a decade-long ban from attending the academy awards

April

  • Apr. 13th – The number of COVID-19 cases exceeded 500 million worldwide
  • Apr. 25th – Twitter announced that it would be selling to Elon Musk for $44 billion

May

  • May 2nd – The U.S. Supreme Courts draft opinion over the Roe vs Wade case was leaked to the public
  • May 16th – Karine Jean-Pierre became the first black woman and LGBTQ person appointed to a U.S. press secretary position

June

  • June 1st – John Hinckley Jr., the attempted assassin of former President Ronald Reagan, was released from prison
  • June 24th – The US supreme court case Roe vs Wade was overturned

July

  • The U.S. experienced and record-breaking heat wave, with the highest temperatures since the early 1900s
  • July 12th – Twitter sued Ellon Musk after he pulled out of the deal to purchase the Twitter site for $44 billion

August

  • Aug. 8th – The FBI searched Donald Trump’s house in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, and seized multiple boxes of classified documents
  • Aug 24th – Biden announced his plan to cancel student loan debts up to $20,000

September

  • Sep. 8th – Queen Elizabeth II died at 96
  • Sep. 27th-30th – Hurricane Ian (a Category 4 storm) hit Florida and other southern states

October

  • Oct. 9th – Ye, a rapper formally known as Kanye West, caused significant companies to withdraw from deals with him due to his anti-semitic remarks
  • Oct. 27th – Elon Musk took ownership of Twitter and immediately fired many employees

November

  • Nov. 8th – The 2022 midterm election took place across the U.S.
  • Nov. 15th – World population reached 8 billion
  • Nov. 20th – The 2022 FIFA World Cup began in Qatar
  • Inflation rates began to slow 

December

  • Dec. 5th – Major milestones in the development of nuclear fusion power
  • Dec. 18th – Argentina wins the 2022 FIFA World Cup
  • China eases COVID-19 restrictions for the first time in over two years.
