Many of you have seen the new Avatar movie, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” and if you are like me, you can’t wait to see the third. As you may have noticed, the second Avatar movie took about 13 years to complete, which is a long time to wait for a movie. Avatar 3, on the other hand, is expected to release in December 2024, just over a year and a half away. The quick turnaround of the next addition to the franchise is because it was filmed simultaneously with the second, meaning they have already completed most of the filming process.

James Cameron, the director of the Avatar movies, has handed in a 9-hour version of the new film and wants to fully complete it before cutting it down; This means visual effects will have to be done for nine hours of film. Of course, Avatar 3 will not end up being that long, but Cameron wants to see the film in its full before deciding what to keep and what to discard.

There are still some shots to get within Avatar 3, which some believe will be named Avatar: The Seed Bearer. It is expected that we will see more underwater scenes in this coming film. Many of the main characters spent time underwater for  Avatar 2, having to hold their breath for several minutes. In fact, Kate Winslet, who plays Ronal, held her breath for over seven minutes, breaking Tom Cruise’s record of six.

Within the third Avatar, there should not be a large time jump like there was between the first and second. This next film will be able to focus on the children of Jake Sully and Neytiri. The children will be in the same age range as the second Avatar due to the simultaneous filming.

Some also expect that a new clan, the ash clan, which is fire-based, will be introduced. James Cameron said in an interview with the French news program 20 Minutes that “In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Navi’s examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite.”

Avatar 3 is expected to bring new and exciting things to the characters and is being released promptly bringing much comfort to everyone who cannot wait for the next movie. Plans for the last two movies in the franchise are already underway, and some filming has already been completed for Avatar 4. So, get ready for twists and turns in the avatar world throughout the coming movies.
