The annual Oscars for 2023 was an absolute hit! Fortunately, everyone kept their hands to themselves and made it a calm and amazing show. So, put your hands together for the review of the 95th annual Oscars!  

For those who may not know much about the Oscars, here’s a little background information. The birth of the academy was back in 1927, with the president Douglas Fairbanks. The Academy Awards (aka the Oscars) refers to the Hollywood ceremony which includes awards given out to the talent in the film industry. Every January, film lovers all around the world gather to watch this glamorous ceremony. There are 23 categories in this ceremony, however this review will only be about the actors and actresses of the film industry. 

The first category was Best Actor in a Leading Role. Brendan Fraser won this award with his lead role as Charlie in “The Whale.” The nominees for this category included Austin Butler as Elvis in “Elvis,”  Colin Farrel as Pádraic Súilleabháin in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” and Bill Nighy as Mr. Rodney Williams in “Living.” The second category of the night was Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and the winner was Ke Huy Quan as Waymond Wang in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” with the nominees being Brendan Gleeson as Colm Doherty in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Brian Tyree Henry as James Aucoin in “Causeway,” Judd Hirsch as Boris Podgomy in “The Fabelmans,” and finally Barry Keoghan as Dominic Kearney in “The Banshees of Inisherin.” 

For the amazing actresses in the film industry, we have the third category: Best Actress in a Leading Role. Michelle Yeoh won this award with her role as Evelyn Quan Wang in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” The nominees for the category included Cate Blanchett as Lydia Tár in “Tár,” Ana De Armas as Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde,” Andrea Riseborough as Leslie in “To Leslie,” and Michelle Williams as Sammy’s mother in “The Fabelmans.” The fourth and final category for the actors and actresses of the film industry was Best Actress in a Supporting Role, which Jamie Lee Curtis won with her role as Deirdre Beaubeirdre in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” The nominees for this award included Angela Bassett as Ramonda in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Hong Chau as Liz in “The Wale,” Kerry Condon as Siobhán Súilleabháin in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” and finally Stephanie Hsu as Joy Wang and Jobu Tupaki in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” 

Congratulations to the winners of the 95th annual Oscars! The Oscars have been putting smiles on peoples faces for 95 years and will continue to do so for years to come.
