2023 Winter Fashion Trends

2023+Winter+Fashion+Trends

Landan Hambly

Several people, including myself, have struggled to dress fashionably in the winter without freezing, but staying warm doesn’t mean you can’t be stylish. So, I have compiled a few popular trends this year to help you know how to dress fashionably, even in the cold months.

  • Maxi Skirts

Maxi skirts are one of the biggest trends of this season. They became popular a few years ago, and have since been seen all over the runways, and have become a staple in many people’s closets. They’re an excellent way to spice up an outfit and make it unique, rather than just wearing pants, that are still very realistic, compared to the micro-minis that were in during the summer.

  • Ballet Flats

They might seem impractical for the winter season, but with the rise of ballet core and clean girl aesthetics, it’s no wonder these shoes snuck their way back into the trend cycle around a year ago and have been one of the most popular trends since, despite the weather.

  • Balaclavas

Balaclavas, A.K.A knit hoods, have been an insanely popular choice to stay warm and stylish at the same time for a few winter seasons now. They are still going strong as one of the most popular winter trends. They’re a great statement piece to add to any simple ensemble to spice it up.

  • Fur Coats

This is another insanely practical trend this season. We’ve seen it styled in a very grunge way, which ties in with all the recent 90s things we’ve been seeing. However, if you do participate in this trend, I highly recommend you buy your fur, faux or authentic, second-hand. Faux fur is damaging to the environment, and the production of authentic fur coats is quite unethical. There is already plenty circulating in thrift stores and second-hand sites. I’m sure you could find the perfect fur coat for you at one of those and probably at a lower price than if you had bought it new.

  • Racing Jackets

Leather bombers have reigned as the go-to fashionable jacket for quite a long time, and while they’re still trendy and a great choice, it would appear they have a new competitor: the racing jacket. This is one of my favorites, and it has been taking the fashion world by storm the past year. It is incredibly stylish and surprisingly versatile.

  • Sheer Clothing

Sheer clothes have been one of the most seen trends on runways the past few seasons, and while they might seem like they don’t make sense right now, considering the weather, they show no signs of slowing down, even for cold temperatures. On colder days, they are great for layering under or on top of pieces to make your outfit a bit more unique and interesting.

  • Statement Scarves

An excellent way to spice up an outfit while staying warm and cozy at the same time. They are incredibly versatile and can go with pretty much any aesthetic. There are so many designs and patterns to choose from, so you’re bound to eventually find the perfect one for you, if you choose to invest in one, which I highly recommend.

If you choose to participate in these trends, I recommend trying to find them second-hand before buying them brand new, as fashion is cyclical, and all of these have been popular before and will be trendy again. I have no doubt you could find most of these in a thrift shop for a lower price and at a higher quality than if you bought them new. It is also way better for the environment; This is especially true for fur, which, as I have previously stated, is incredibly damaging to our Earth to produce. I would recommend never buying new if possible.
