  1. The Babadook (2014):

A lot of people have different opinions about The Babadook. This movie has a lot of bad reviews because it’s not a movie that will make you jump out of your seats. Well, that’s the point: I personally like the suspense in the movie. It draws emotion which makes it scarier. The movie is slow and it makes you anxious about what is going to happen next. The movie is about a widow named Amelia Vanek who has been raising her six year son, Samuel, by herself after her husband died in a car accident. The boy, Samuel has very unpredictable behavior. Samuel starts talking about an imaginary monster and becomes very occupied with the monster. One night, Samuel ask his mother to read a book he found on the bookshelf, Mister Babadook. The book showed images that disturbed Amelia and Samuel, as the book showed the monster tormenting his victims. After that strange things start happening. I think a person who loves slow, unexpected movies would love to watch this horror movie.

  1. Poltergeist (1982):

The first time I watched this movie was in third grade. I remember always having to peek through my hands, I was really scared. And watching it now, it’s still pretty terrifying. I can’t even imagine what people thought of this movie when it came out. I love how unique this movie is; it’s not like other horror films. The movie is about the youngest daughter of the Freeling family, Carol Anne, who started connecting with the supernatural through a dead channel on the television. Strange events start to occur. At first it seemed like harmless ghosts until they take a nasty turn, and began to horrify the family to death with murderous dolls. They abduct Carol Anne into her bedroom closet. Which seems like an entrance to a different dimension. I think anyone who’s into scary movies with murderous dolls and paranormal events would love this movie.

  1. The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005):

I watched this movie not that long ago and I really enjoyed it. It is a well-put together movie. Although I can’t say this movie will make you hide beneath your blankets, there were some moments I jumped out of my seat. The scenes are very intriguing. To me, this movie is something I would love to watch while hanging out with my friends while eating popcorn. The movie is about a young girl named Emily Rose who died under the care of her priest. Emily believes she was possessed and after she dies, the priest goes on trial for her death. He is represented by a lawyer who does not believe in God. The priest tells the story of Emily Rose who was there during the possession. I think anyone can like this movie even if you’re not the biggest fan of horror movies. It also has crime and drama in the movie which a lot of people love to watch.

  1. The Conjuring (2013):

I enjoyed this movie because it will keep you hooked. I’ve watched this movie so many times it still scares me even though I already know what is going to happen. It’s still one of my favorites and it never gets old while watching it. The movie is about a married couple who moves into an old house with their four daughters. The family finds a hidden basement with an entrance that was blocked. They are soon haunted by sounds. The mother meets with a famous paranormal investigator couple asking for help. The paranormal investigators visit the house. They think that the house is possessed by something evil and dark. The investigation shows us that a witch sacrificed her baby to Satan and has possessed other mothers that lived in the house to kill their children. If you want to watch a memorable horror movie I suggest you watch this.

  1. The Exorcist (1973):

The first time I watched this movie I didn’t know what to expect. It has been told this move was “the scariest movie ever made!” I thought this movie wasn’t going to be scary but, this movie proved me wrong. Yes, the movie is pretty boring in the beginning and some people may not find this movie scary anymore because of the year it was made, which I totally understand. This movie also carries a lot of emotion and after watching the movie you sort of feel beaten. This movie is about a mother of a young girl who gets help from a priest after her daughter’s behavior brutally changed with violent outbursts, scaring the family. The priest thinks that the daughter is possessed by a demon. Father Merrin, is called to save Regan from the demon that’s possessing her. I think a person who loves scary movies would love to watch this movie. And if they haven’t watched this movie yet, the definitely need to.

The reason why I made this movie number one on my list is because when I was sitting down with my dad and he started telling me how scared he was while watching the movie right when it came out, I thought about how a lot of things changed since the 70’s. The graphics back then are really different compared to now, so just imagine how scary this movie was when it came out. The movie overall is pretty good and terrifying.
