Things are heating up for this year’s ASB elections: Flyers are being put up and torn down, tensions are high on social media, and candidates are doing everything they can to gain the votes of their peers. Voting will happen tomorrow, Thursday the 14th, and the student body has seen many a creative poster, but many are still unsure of the actual policies of those who are running. Here’s some quick facts about all the candidates to help you cast your vote in the right direction.

Presidential Candidates:

Amanda Wikramanayake

What’s your favorite thing about Peninsula? There’s a lot of different groups and everyone’s really fun and nice.

What was your most embarrassing moment at Peninsula? Talking to myself and not realizing people are around.

Do you have any hidden talents? I dance.

If you could be any superhero what would you be? I’d be Amanda because I am a hero.

Do you have any fears? None.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you bring with you? Water because hydrate or die-drate.

What’s your spirit animal? A panda because my name rhymes with panda.

What would you do if you were elected? Exactly what I’m doing for campaigning. Prank people, but in a fun way.

What’s your favorite thing about Peninsula? The inclusivity and diversity of all the groups. Everyone loves each other.

What was your most embarrassing moment at Peninsula?  I dressed up for a pajama spirit day when no one else did.

Use three words to describe yourself. Spirited, friendly, responsible.

If you could be any superhero what would you be? Batman.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you bring with you? A microphone. So I could perform and have fun but also try and get attention for help.

What’s your spirit animal?  A panda.

What would you do if you were elected? I would promote more inclusiveness. I would support and promote other clubs and sports. Get more student sections because everyone does matter in this school. I would get a fishbowl entrance and make sure every senior feels included.

Shafer Newton

What’s your spirit animal? Everyone at PHS is my spirit animal.

If you could be any superhero who would you be? Deadpool.

What’s your most embarrassing moment? Cracking my head open in the locker room before the JV basketball game.

What would you do if you were elected? First, I’d shave my head. Then I’d make the school a better place.

What’s your biggest fear? Babies.

Vice President:

Nadira Ali

What’s your favorite thing about Peninsula? I like how we are all a family. I think the atmosphere is really genuine and I don’t think a lot of schools are as welcoming and accepting as we are. That’s what makes us really special.

What was your most embarrassing moment at Peninsula? Freshman year at the homecoming assembly for the class competition I really sucked at that and didn’t know what I was doing.

Use three words to describe yourself. Funny (I crack myself up), genuine, and wise. Sometimes I think I could be a philosopher.

If you could be any superhero what would you be? Rey from Star Wars.

Do you have any fears? I don’t like goats or crabs.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you bring with you? Food. Or a friend.

What’s your spirit animal? A turtle or a jellyfish.

What would you do if you were elected? I want to show everyone how great Peninsula is. I want everyone to come to school feeling happy and don’t want anyone to fear coming to school. I want everyone to feel that their opinion matters.

What’s your favorite thing about Peninsula? How diverse the school is and everyone is bonded together and knows each other.

Do you have any fears? I hate clowns.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you bring with you? Leonardo Dicaprio.

What’s your spirit animal? A little loyal puppy dog.

What would you do if you were elected? Make things more student-oriented. Put more more energy into making assemblies better, and get students involved with the morning announcements.

Secretary:

Madison Ormsby

What’s your favorite thing about Peninsula? The amount of acceptance that we have. There’s a lot of people who love everybody because they are who they are.

What was your most embarrassing moment at Peninsula? When I asked Jake Lingo to TOLO and wore my cow onesie in front of everyone.

Do you have any hidden talents?  Scrapping together meals or snacks out of hardly any food.

If you could be any superhero what would you be? Batman.

Do you have any fears? Driving in the car and finding a spider in it, because I would die. Also not being able to cheer my friends up when they’re sad.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you bring with you? Macgyver. He can make stuff out of ANYTHING.

What’s your spirit animal?  My cat. He naps a lot.

What would you do if you were elected? Try to do the best job I could. Try my best to make sure everyone has a voice.

Jonathan Brewster

What’s your favorite thing about Peninsula? The people here. It’s a very accepting group of people and they are very nice to everybody.

What was your most fun time at PHS? The talent show. JBrew and the Dance Crew.

Do you have any hidden talents? I like to sing and dance.

If you could be any superhero what would you be? Captain America because he loves his country.

Do you have any fears? Flash floods.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you bring with you? A physicians desk reference hollowed out with a box of matches, hatchet, and food inside.

What’s your spirit animal? A penguin.

What would you do if you were elected? I would try to do things for the school that would bring more than just the regular amount of people to events, and try to include everybody.

Treasurer:

Riley Wynn

What’s your favorite thing about Peninsula? The environment; everyone is chill and not cliquey. It’s open and inviting.

What was your most embarrassing moment at Peninsula? When we set up for homecoming freshman year I was on ladder and fell off. All the seniors laughed.

Use three words to describe yourself. Hard-working, dedicated, funny.

If you could be any superhero what would you be? Flash, so I could be killer at Cross Country and Track.

Do you have any fears? Right now its elections.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you bring with you? Survival  for dummies book.

What’s your spirit animal? A liger, like off Napoleon Dynamite.

What would you do if you were elected? I would listen to everybody so I could make the school better. I would make the school the happiest place.

Jack Filkins

What’s your favorite thing about Peninsula? All the students are very inclusive. Everyone makes great relationships at the school.

Do you have any hidden talents? My Gollum impression.

If you could be any superhero what would you be? Superman. He has laser vision which is pretty sweet.

Do you have any fears? Blankets over my face.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you bring with you? A TV with all the seasons of the show Lost to see how they survived.

What’s your spirit animal? A duck because I have little ducklings who follow my leadership.

What would you do if you were elected? I want to include everyone more into decision making, and get more student body opinions about stuff like homecoming and spirit days.
