The 65th annual event called “The Grammys” has come to a conclusion. For those who don’t know what the Grammys are, it is an awards ceremony for the music industry. This year had some surprising and exciting winners and nominees, and here we are with an overview!

To give a little background, the Grammys became a work in progress around the 1950s, the same time the Hollywood Walk of Stars was in progress. There was a renewed interest in music and the recording industry, which eventually led to the creation of the GRAMMY awards. These awards honor the music industry’s most talented songwriters, artists, and musicians. Many genres are a part of this event, such as pop, rock, rap, and many more. Each year they have categories that encompass each genre. These categories include the record of the year, the album of the year, and finally, the song of the year. 

There were many shockers of the night, but nonetheless, here are this year’s winners and their nominees. For the record of the year, Lizzo won with her hit song, “About Damn Time.” The nominees for this category include “Don’t Shut Me Down” by ABBA; “Easy on Me” by Adele; “Good Morning Gorgeous” by Mary J. Blige; “You And Me On The Rock” by Brandi Carlie and Lucius; “Woman” by Doja Cat; “The Heart Part 5” by Kendrick Lamar; “BREAK MY SOUL” by Beyoncé; “Bad Habit” by Steve Lacy; and finally “As It Was” by Harry Styles. The next category is album of the year. Harry Styles’ 3rd album on his own, “Harry’s House,” won album of the year for 2023. The amazing nominees include “Voyage” by ABBA; “30” by Adele; “In The Silent Days” by Brandi Carlie; “Music Of The Spheres” by Coldplay; “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” by Kendrick Lamar; “Special” by Lizzo; “Good Morning Gorgeous (Deluxe)” by Mary J. Blige; “Un Verano Sin Ti” by Bad Bunny; and finally “RENAISSANCE” by  Beyoncé. The award for song of the year surprised many, “Just Like That” by Bonnie Raitt won her 13th grammy this year. The nominees for this award include “Bad Habit” by Steve Lacy; “BREAK MY SOUL” by Beyoncé; “The Heart Part 5” by Kendrick Lamar;  “As It Was” by Harry Styles; “All Too Well (10-minute version)” by Taylor Swift; “About Damn Time” by Lizzo; and finally “abdcdefu” by GAYLE. 

This year’s GRAMMY awards came with some surprises, but nonetheless, congratulations to the nominees and award winners. Everyone cannot wait for these artists to continue their careers and for the newer artists to finally grow a platform!
