Twitter Bans Kanye West for Antisemitic Remarks

Isabella Hansen

Ye, formally known as Kanye West, has recently been suspended from Twitter for tweeting antisemitic remarks, including a swastika blended with the star of David. Ye’s post happened just two weeks after returning to the Twitter platform. Elon Musk took ownership of Twitter in October of 2022 and has since disbanded its trust and Safety advisory group. This group would address any tweets, including hate speech, self-harm, etc.

Ye also talked about his liking towards Hitler when he appeared in an episode of “Infowars.”

Ye’s said that he “can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew” This is coming from a tweet Ye posted that has since been removed.

Ye and Elon Musk have publicly tweeted in response to each other. Musk first tweeted that Ye would be suspended from his Twitter account to which Ye then tweeted, “Let’s always remember this as my final tweet,” including a shirtless picture of Elon Musk on a yacht. Musk replied, “that is fine,” but “this is not” on Ye’s deleted swastika tweet.

The public conversation continued with Musk saying, “this is not love,” to which Ye replied, “who made you the judge.” Ye then turned to other social networks, such as Truth Social.

On October 9th, Ye wore a “White Lives Matter” t-shirt to the Paris Fashion Week show. Some people may not see a problem with this. Still, the saying, “White Lives Matter,” is labeled as hate speech by the Anti-Defamation League since it is connected to white supremacists and hateful organizations. Ye reasoned that “the answer to why I wrote ‘White Lives Matter’ on a shirt is because they do.”

Ye is known to be bipolar, which may explain some of his recent actions. Being bipolar can bring extreme mood swings, depressive states, and a loss of interest in different activities. Bipolar disorder may even cause someone difficulty in clear thinking and reasoning.

With Ye’s recent public posts and decisions, many organizations have begun to avoid him and what he represents. However, people continue to listen to his music.
